The newly established Department of Public Mental Health is concerned with the basics and the transfer of knowledge from social epidemiology to psychiatric care with the overall aim of promoting resilience and public mental health.

A translational, transdiagnostic, interdisciplinary research strategy is pursued. One focus of the department is the development and evaluation of new digital interventions that are geared to the everyday needs and social contexts of patients and translate psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment into their everyday lives. For example, the EMIcompass study evaluates the effectiveness and clinical feasibility of a mHealth App-based intervention to improve emotional resilience in young people in a randomized controlled design. The department also investigates integrated etiological models of psychiatric diseases and especially their social risk architecture as well as psychological risk and resilience mechanisms. A further focus is the investigation of transdiagnostic dimensions and courses of psychopathology in prospective cohort studies of adolescents, high-risk populations and severe mental illness.
