Search for dissertations and habilitations (theses)

Search with title words

In our online catalogue you can limit your search to theses by linking title words with the search field Media type, search term hs.
Title words can also be linked with OR within a search field (see screenshot).

Search with subject groups

For a thematic search, you can first search for the appropriate subject group in the keyword register or in the subject group index and then enter the subject group abbreviation with spaces in the search field Classmark of the online catalog (see screenshot).

Alternatively, you can conduct a direct search in the online catalogue via the keyword register or subject group index.

To restrict this search to theses, click on Modify search request in the hit list on the right and then select the previous query via the search history or in the bottom search field of the advanced search (see screenshots).

Note: Please do not search with the field Keyword, as university theses are usually not keyword indexed!

Order/reservation

You can then order the desired dissertation/post-doctoral thesis from the magazine by clicking on the tab reservation/order or reserve if the title is borrowed.

The abstracts of dissertations of the medical faculties of Mannheim and Heidelberg from 1998 onwards can be found in the databases:

• Dissertation abstracts (Mannheim)
• Doctoral theses (Heidelberg)

In both databases you can browse by author, doctoral supervisor, year or subject area.

For the subsequent ordering of Mannheim dissertations, please use our online catalogue. Heidelberg dissertations can be ordered via our Document Delivery Service.

When searching the Heidelberg online catalogue HEIDI, it is possible to limit the search to university theses after searching via Document type > Hochschulschrift (=University thesis) (see screenshot).

LIVIVO

In the portal LIVIVO you can limit your search to the document type Dissertation / Habilitation.

German National Library

The Online catalogue of the German National Library (in German) contains mainly German monographs, dissertations and habilitations from 1913 onwards.
From 1998 onwards, all electronic university theses with access to the full text are also listed.

In order to limit the search to dissertations or habilitations, you can, for example, link title words and keywords (search field Alle Begriffe, abbreviate search term with wildcards * or ? if necessary) with the search field Hochschulschriftenvermerk, search term diss (see screenshot) or habil in the Advanced Search.
