Members‘ Assembly 2026 – meet the new representatives
On Thursday, May 21st, 2026, the School of Translational Medicine Mannheim (STMM) held its annual members’ assembly. At this occasion, the newly elected members’ representatives were introduced. The new committee consists of five representatives for Dr. sc. hum. candidates, one representative for Dr. med. candidates, one representative for postdoctoral researchers, and one representative for data scientists. Together, they represent the interests of all early-career researchers at the various institutions of our faculty. Anyone may contact the representatives directly with questions, course requests, or event suggestions (contact details on the members pages). We would also like to express our sincere thanks to the outgoing representatives who put together a varied line-up for the Science & Pizza series and were instrumental in launching the STMM Career Day!
Recap: STMM Innovation Day 2026 - Bridging Science and Business!
On January 29th, 2026, doctoral students and young researchers met to dive into the start-up landscape. The morning session featured an inspiring look at the founder’s path with Olga Belousova, Innovation Management Professor from Groningen University, and coach and entrepreneur Georg Fischer who offered deep dives into what it takes to start a company and how to propose innovative concepts to stakeholders.
During the networking lunch, participants connected directly with key players from hei_INNOVATION, ScienceValue Heidelberg, and Mannheim’s innovation hubs like CUBEX and the MMT-Cluster. The day concluded with informal expert talks, providing real-world insights into bringing scientific discoveries to market.
Thank you to all participants for this interactive highlight – we look forward to seeing you at the STMM Innovation Day 2027!

Mark your diaries for Postdoc Appreciation Week 2026 (September 21-25) with popular Germany-wide online events on DFG funding, Careers beyond academia, and many more: https://paw-germany.de/. The STMM calls on postdocs and clinician scientists to help shape the local offer! For in-person events tailored to your needs, we need your input – ideas and proposals can be submitted to the STMM until June 2026.
Happy Birthday an unser jüngstes strukturiertes Programm! Dr. med. wird am 1. April ein Jahr alt
Last year saw the implementation of a structured training program for Dr. med. and Dr. med. dent. doctoral students. On April 1st, 2026, the Dr. med. program turns one – time to look back over the first year: over 150 students have since started their doctorate in the structured program, and over 200 students are currently using the LEARN platform to find courses and trainings preparing them for their doctoral research. Together, they have already clocked up 5400 hours of training, building valuable scientific and transferable skills. Congratulations to the first four finishers of the program, who have managed to complete their training within a few months of starting their doctorate! For those who would like to embark on a Dr. med. doctoral thesis, join us at the next information event. Details in our event calendar.
First graduates of the STMM’s structured Dr.sc.hum. programme
The structured program for Dr. sc. hum. completed its fourth year on March 1st, 2026. Nearly 160 doctoral students are currently registered in the Dr. sc. hum. program, nine of which have already completed their 240h training. Congratulations to the first five who have passed their doctoral examination! We are particularly proud to welcome back our first alumna, Dr. Alexya Azhakesan (supervisor Prof. Dr. Nicole Rotter) to the upcoming Career Day, where she will share with us how her career unfolded after the doctorate. Curious about what Alexya is doing now? Find out on the Career Day page now.
