For the STMM Summer Symposium 2024 we put together an exciting line-up that showcased engaging science from health and life sciences research. Students had the opportunity to present and discuss their own research in the form of a poster, poster and flash talk, or short talk.
The morning started with two Impulse Talks from successful (early) career scientists Prof. Dr. Emanuel Schwarz and Dr. Eduard Maier, and an interactive Panel Discussion on research-related topics (e.g., funding research, interdisciplinary communication, translating science into society, identifying a good host lab,…).
Before lunch, five students, selected from all submitted abstracts, talked about their research in detail. The afternoon kicked off with flash talks advertising the posters, followed by coffee to sustain a lively poster session.
A jury of PIs decided for two Poster Prizes to be given to
Juhyun Kang for „Exploring MD-NAc Circuit Plasticity and Functionality in Chronic Neuropathic Pain and Therapeutic Interventions“
and
Anika Strittmatter for „Deep Learning-Based Multistep Deformable Medical Image Registration for Multimodal Minimal-Invasive Image-Guided Intervention“
The audience prize went to Yuanhan Ao for his poster on „OP2113 Alleviates Myocardial Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury In Remote Myocardial Tissue Through Regulating Mitochondrial Homeostasis.“
The day closed with Prof. Rohini Kuner, Leibniz Prize Winner 2024, giving special insights into pain research with the keynote lecture on “The challenge of chronic pain: neural circuits and molecular plasticity”.
