STMM Summer Symposium 2024: The first STMM Summer Symposium was organised by members of our department, and showcased the health and life sciences research being carried out by early career investigators in our faculty. More than 60 participating young researchers had the opportunity to present and discuss their research, and were able to interact with fellow researchers and get inspired by the invited speakers. Impulse Talks from Prof. Dr. Emanuel Schwarz and Dr. Eduard Maier (both from ZI, Mannheim) and a Keynote Lecture by Prof. Dr. Rohini Kuner (winner of the Leibniz Prize in 2024 for her research into the mechanisms of chronic pain) were highlights of the event.

TMR Pre-Graduation Ceremony 2024: We are excited for our soon-to-be graduates from the TMR Master Program but sad to see them go. Their densely packed and fast-paced year nears its end and we celebrated this together with the BME Master Program with wonderfully reflective and inspiring speeches by Professor Sleeman and students, music by the student choir “Cantomanie”, certificates and champagne. Congratulations, we will miss you!

EU funding for IMIM 2025-2029: The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) Program “International Master in Innovative Medicine”, of which our local TMR Master Program is part of, just received the fantastic news that it is one of the lucky 34 proposals out of 140 that were positively evaluated. We can thus move forward to prepare the grant agreement to receive funding for our well-established, continuously-improving collaboration with Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and Uppsala Universitet, welcoming a new Full Partner, Tartu University, on board. Importantly, this enables us to attract talented students from all over the world and support them with scholarships.

STMM Industry and Innovation Days 2024
The annual Industry and Innovation Days took place at the Alte Brauerei, organised by the School of Translational Medicine at the Mannheim Medical Faculty (STMM) and closely linked to the Spring School of the International Master of Innovative Medicine (IMIM). A total of around 75 Master's students, doctoral students, postdocs and young scientists took advantage of the event, which focusses on translational research and innovation, as well as career paths in industry and elsewhere. In addition to a keynote speech on artificial intelligence and lectures on effective presenting and networking, there were also many opportunities for personal exchange with representatives of various companies, from start-ups to big pharma, and different institutions from the Rhine-Neckar region.
04 – 09 March 2024
As part of the curriculum in the International Master in Innovative Medicine (IMIM), we organized IMIM Spring School for our students from Mannheim (MSc TMR), Groningen (The Netherlands, MSc MMIT) and Uppsala (Sweden, MM MM/MR). It was a week full of interaction, learning and enjoyment. After personal development workshops and participation in the STMM Industry & Innovation Days, the Mannheim Castle visit was as a final excursion highlight.
